Why is Leadership Academy of Arizona opening in Tucson?
Tucson has many school options. But too many students are not meeting grade-level standards.

What is a Charter School? How is it different from a traditional school?
Charter schools are tuition-free, public schools that focus on an innovative teaching method or program of instruction. Charter schools are granted greater flexibility than traditional schools, in exchange for higher accountability.
Charter schools are schools of choice, meaning families choose the charter school for their child rather than attending a traditional public school based on location.
While traditional public schools must adhere to specified regulations, charter schools can operate with less restriction from these regulations. Charter schools are accountable to achievement goals set in their charter and can be closed if they do not meet these measures.
Do charter schools have admission policies? Can anyone attend a charter school?
Yes. Charter schools are public schools and must follow a fair and open admissions process. They cannot select or exclude students based on academic ability, background, or beliefs.
Charter schools are open to all students in the community they serve and are nonsectarian and nondiscriminatory. When applications exceed available seats, students are admitted through a random lottery. Otherwise, enrollment is offered on a first-come, first-served basis.
